Awonawilona - creator of the world
The Zuni Indians (native to Mexico) believed that Awonawilona was the creator of the world, becoming the sun and making the 'mother-earth' and 'father-sky', from where all living creatures came, born in four caves deep in the earth.The first man, (Poshaiyankya), led the creatures up into the light. He also made the ocean, which was covered with green algae that hardened, split and became Awitelin Tsta and Apoyan Tachi.
