Ford Calhoun
Ford Calhoun was the fomer CIO of GlaxoSmithKline PLC, appointed shortly after the merger of SmithKline Beecham and GlaxoWellcome.Calhoun earned himself a reputation as a cost cutter, slashing IT budgets across the company, and in the process making himself unpopular with other senior managers.
During his time as CIO he implemented a number of projects in order to improve IT payback and cut costs further. Many of these failed, as they did not take into consideration long term requirements of the organization.
In addition to this Calhoun spearheaded a number of outsourcing projects, sending vast amounts of work to offshore centers in India. This resulted in a drop in the quality of service provided and a number of key failures in GSKs IT development programme.
Calhoun eventually left GSK in Jan 2007, and Bill Louve was announced as the next CIO.
