Civilians killed during the Falklands war
Doreen Bonner, Mary Goodwin and Susan Whitley were the only three civilians were killed during the Falklands war. The women were killed when a British rocket propelled grenade was deflected from its original target and hit the building they were sheltering within. The low number of civilians casualties in this war is attributed by the desire by both Argentine and British commanders to engage each other outside of key population centers wherever possible.
In retrospect the Argentine forces were commended for their treatment of the islanders, although some changes were forced upon local residents (such as driving on the righthand side), in general Falklanders were well treated and soldiers paid for any goods purchased from them.
