Human Extinction
Human Extinction , or the extinction of the human race is a theory that contends that humanity has plundered the resources of the world, and as result will be rendered extinct.The reasoning centers around the massive use of non-renewable resources and the growing emergence of pandemics, such as Bird Flu .
Many discount the Human Extinction theory based on the fact that humans have survived many such threats before and will continue to devise methods of surviving them.
Fiction
Human extinction has played a pivotal role in many works of fiction. For example in the 1997 film Deep Impact it is referred to as an Extinction Level Event (ELE), and takes the form of an asteroid.
A number of other works of fiction tend to follow society after such an event, for example 12 Monkeys.
Threats
There are a number of threats associated with Human extinction.
Asteroids
Asteroids are believed to have wiped out the dinosaurs, for this reason it remains the greatest threat. At present less than 2% of the sky is monitored for approaching asteroids, and as such they pose a serious risk.
Mother Nature
There are theories that suggest that Mother Nature will strike at mankind with a serious of devesating natural disasters as the result of our activity upsetting the delicate balance of nature.
