Hyde Park bombings

On July 20, 1982, the IRA detonated several bombs in Hyde Park and nearby Regents park.

in which double bombings struck ceremonial military targets in the centre of London on a summer afternoon, killing eleven soldiers, seven horses and wounding over 50 people.

In the first incident a nail bomb in a blue car was detonated as members of the Household Cavalry made their way to the changing of the guard from their barracks in Knightsbridge.

Another device exploded underneath the bandstand in Regents Park as the Royal Green Jackets played music from Oliver to 120 spectators.

In October 1987 Gilbert McNamee, 27, was sent to jail for conspiracy to cause explosions between 1982 and 1984.
