Sally Anne Bowman
Sally Anne Bowman was murdered on the 25th September 2005, in Croydon, South West London.She was sexually assaulted, bitten and then stabbed to death in the early hours of the morning. Her body was discovered at approximately 6 am her neighbour, yards from her house. Mrs Ann Hardy described seeing a pair of white legs behind a skip, when she investigated she found Sally Anne.
Police originally believed that they are dealing with a serial attacker, who has attacked a number of other women in the same area.A number of Sally Anne's possessions, including a white handbag, mobile phone, cardigan and purse are still missing - as is the murder weapon, thought to be a 12cm to 14cm knife.
The attacker was described as beingwhite, in his 20s or 30s, between 5ft 9in and 6ft and of medium build with short brown hair.
04 April 2006 - A new e-fit of her attacker has been released, however there has still be no arrest.
The Suspect
28 June 2006 - A 39 year old man from Surrey has been arrested in connection with the murder of Sally Ann Bowman.
Mark Dixie, 35, a chef, is also accused of indecent assault in relation to an incident in 2001.
He is currently being questioned by police.
The Trial
The trial of Mark Dixie began on the 5th Feb 2008. Mr Dixie has claimed that he was not involved in her murder, however, he did have sex with her after she was dead.
On the second day of the trial accusations were made that her boyfriend, Lewis Sproston, had murdered her after an argument, during which they had both accused each other of infidelity.
On the 22nd Feb 2008 Mark Dixie was found guilty of the murder of Sally Anne Bowman. During the trial Dixie had continued to claim that he had found her body and had sex with her after her death, only realising that she was dead after she failed to respond to him biting her face and body.
