Safe travel tips

.Packing is where safety begins. To avoid becoming a target dress conservatively and try not to wear expensive-looking jewellery.

.Photocopy your passport identification page, airline tickets, driver’s licence and the credit cards you’re taking with you. Leave one set at home with family or friends and pack the other set in your luggage, separate from your valuables.

.Prescriptions must be carried with you on the plane rather than in your checked-in luggage. A medical alert bracelet bearing details of your blood type, allergies or any special medical conditions is a good idea.

.Pickpockets and thieves are everywhere. Always be on the lookout for staged distractions. Avoid visible waist pouches as potential thieves will know where your valuables are.

.Pace yourself and don’t try to conquer Rome in a day. Give yourself time to adjust to new surroundings to avoid exhaustion that may lead to easy distraction.

.Play and have fun! Be careful, but it’s not necessary to be paranoid!
